Counting check marks disappear

Counting check marks disappear
I have one user that when using the counting option then either escaping or start a new command such as drawing a line the counting check marks disappear & the count is lost & he has to start over. I can’t duplicate this issue on my computer…assuming there is button he has selected that turns this off every time & I just don’t know where or what it is.

My first thought would be that his tool is defaulting to a hidden layer. Are they still showing up in the markup list?
