How do you share your takeoff information with your field team?

We are a mid-sized site development contractor. Basically, between us and our trade partners, we take your site from existing conditions (forest/field/existing building/parking lot /etc.) to the point where the “vertical” contractors take over. Our takeoffs capture the underground utility information, areas for paving, lengths of curb, areas of sidewalk, etc. Historically, after investing hours of time preparing our takeoffs we send your Foremen into the field to build the job with a roll of blank plans. Our General Superintendent has access to our takeoff set, but basically he opens it up in that other PDF software and just pokes around.

In the last year we have shifted to an electronic timecard system (using Go Canvas interestingly enough) and issued our Foreman iPads. One of my goals for 2025 is to find a way to get more value out of my takeoff by providing access to my markups electronically to our Foreman.

So, hence my question. What are your “best practices” for sharing information with your field team?

    Why not simply use Studio?

We may very well do that @Doug McLean – but we aren’t even at the point of having Revu available on their devices.

Curious to hear how folks are providing the interface for the folks in the field.

How many drawings are you guys typically talking about sharing? Working on housing projects here in the UK, we are looking at several hundred drawings if not thousands on each site. My groundworkers have even been talking to someone like Viewpoint to have their own system made.

With regards progress though, a lot of the groundworkers machines are now set up with computers which mean they can drive out into the middle of a field and start excavating foundations, grading the ground to new levels, etc. – it is pretty amazing!
