Video – Debugging JavaScript for Bluebeam in a Digital Dashboard

I posted my latest video for using JavaScript within Bluebeam, specifically for a digital dashboard.

@troy-degroot will be interested to see a clever reason for wanting to turn layers on an off using JavaScript, and how simple* the code can be for it.

*Please note: I made some really silly errors, which is why the video is half an hour and not 10 minutes. As long as the layer name matches the button name, there’s no manual coding at all after the initial setup.

Love it @lizlarsen Thanks for sharing! Don’t underestimate the value of your “mistakes” in the video. Showing things break and how to fix them has way more value than everything working and not knowing why.

Maybe my bias toward multiple pages in a Dashboard rather than scripting layers is actually my lack of JavaScript comprehension. 🤣

I had debated on how I wanted to do this particular video.

Did I want to figure it out off camera, then do a much more scripted video on how I fixed it? Or did I want to do it in real-time to show how I troubleshoot and problem-solve?

Obviously I went went with the latter. I figured “show, don’t tell” might work better. And it’ll make people feel better about their own silly mistakes. We all make them. Especially, I think, when writing code.

Telling isn’t teaching. Good choice, and very well done.
