Alright, I want to try something new here. I’m planning a new blog post specifically about the Highlighter Tool. Tell me your tips, tricks, and “you should know” secrets. Don’t be shy about the basics. I have several ideas in mind, but thought I’d crowd-source a complete list.

I love holding down the “Shift” key to get nice, straight lines!

And, of course, holding down the Ctrl key to allow you to unrestrain the highlighter from nearby text.

Naming and colour coding highlights so when I’m reading a report, I can easily sort everything into relevant sections at the end.

Hey, Troy, I very much appreciate the new T&T’s on the Highlighter Tool.

A suggestion: How about another T&T related to the Arc tool? I can never get that tool to work for me. I remember seeing a good video a few years back that talked about how the arc tool could be controlled using the keyboard combinations, but I’ve forgotten everything.

Something I don’t think I had noticed until the other day is the ability to control the width of the highlighter “line” by changing the font size. So you can use the tool as a broad brush, or as a precision instrument of communication.

I’m not sure I follow, where are you setting the font size in the highlighter tool? I’m missing something obvious here, sorry. 🙃

Once you apply a highlight you can change the “Line Width” in the properties bar. This also shows a “line weight” in my top menu bar. The default highlight tool has a setting of “12”

If you have a setting that you like you can right click and set the current properties to default. Another option would be to establish an toolchest of highlighters of various widths and colors to have them available at a click of your mouse.

Got it, I thought you had some magic button where the line width was tied to the font size. A highlighter toolset is great for some of us with a mug full of pens and highlighters on our desk. Thanks David
