File Access – Recent Files

  • File Access – Recent Files

Learned something the hard way today.

Did you know when you Clear your Recent Files, it also clears all the Categories and Pinned files?

I have about 150 documents scattered throughout my computer I can access to teach or answer a question at the drop of a hat.

    Not anymore! 😠

Thank you for the heads up Troy!

Are they saved a part of a profile that you have saved?

I wish it was part of a profile. I had a separate session of Bluebeam open that still showed them, but when I tried to add documents to a category they all disappeared. I guess it’s time to rethink and reorganize.

Might be an opportunity to discuss “Best Practices” for files that you access regularly.

To start I’d suggest establishing a “quick reference” folder on your system that is backed up regularly and then have a shortcut to that location pinned to your file explorer. This will take some effort to keep current, but will avoid this issue (an others) in the future.

Next I would pin 1 of those files to your quick access in the file menu in Revu. This would allow you to right click on the file and open that folder to access the other reference files without having all of them pinned directly in Revu.

I need to redesign the folder structure and shortcuts. It goes without saying the Clear Recent button will never be used again.

This one might be a good one to bring to the attention of folks you know at Bluebeam – or perhaps someone who is already reading this 😎.

I could see two improvements in the “Clear Recent Files” option:

            1. Add a “Are you sure you want to do this as this will not only clear your recent files but also your Categories and Pinned files” warning message.

            2. Split the “Clear Recent Files” into a “Clear Recent Files” and a separate “Clear Categories and Pinned files” option.

After all, what every day user would have ever thought that “Clear Recent Files” would clear your categories and pinned files??????

Exactly! I’m sure the software doesn’t know the difference between “recent” and “pinned recent”, but a warning would be good.

I would adjust how many recents show, that should make the problem less annoying at least:

I need to recreate all my links and reduce the number of files. Wish I had a screenshot at least.

That’s definitely something to be aware of! Thanks for the heads up, Troy.

Just learned about categories a couple of weeks ago. Glad I know this now!
