  Legend Not Reporting Correctly?

  This is one I watch trip up sharp people constantly: two markups that look completely identical on the page land as two separate line items in a legend. Same tool, same measurement, same everything you can see at a glance.

  Nine times out of ten it comes down to something the legend checks that you can’t, color, subject text, or a label field that got typed slightly differently somewhere along the way. Legends group by matching data exactly, not by what looks the same to your eyes.

  I teach a two-minute check before trusting any legend total that matters: scan subject, label, and color across the set before you call the count final. Cheap insurance against reporting the wrong number to a client.
