    Moving computers

Got a new computer… and all the joys that comes with it…

    Got Blue beam license migrated.

Question.. Is there a way to export/move my categories /Pinned file names/locations over to new computer. Does not appear to transport with profile export /import..

I use it extensively … and it will be a major Pain to manually recreate. Couldnt find anything in help.. about where this info is archived….

Just want the pinned… don’t want or expect the recents of history to transfer…

I still have access the the old computer…

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Great question @sss78132

I learned the hard way that when you “Clear Resents” it actaully clears all the pinned categories also. Very frustrating. At a minimum, I’m glad you still have the old computer to reference, I had to build mine back by memory.

I don’t know of a way to save and share these, but I wonder if you are signed into Revu 21 if it would still be there when you sign in on the new computer. For some reason I doubt it.

Wish I had more advice. Right-click “open folder” will be your freind to locate all the files again.

      IDK about 21…. still running 2020 Extreme…

      Haven’t upgraded yet..

They are still active in old 20 copy though, even after lifting the license..

Hmm so the pinned files are stored here: C:\Users\(you)\AppData\Roaming\Bluebeam Software\Revu\21\RdbPinnedFiles.dat

I wonder if you could just copy this file over and replace the one in the folder? I have not played with it but maybe someone else has.

As a side note, there is also the Recent files data there too, as well as one thats labeled “RdbFileAccess”. Maybe that last one has your categories?

Sorry for pulling this post back to the surface, but I found the answer. You can save and share or import your pinned categories to another computer. I wrote a quick blog post.

Great writeup @troy-degroot – and perfect timing as I’m migrating to a new laptop!

Thank you for remembering this topic and making the time to bring it back to the top of the page.

I always thought the recent files were more of a local thing, and there was no way it could be saved and shared. Turns out, it’s extremely easy! Good luck with the computer migration!

Worked my way through this process this morning @troy-degroot and it went very well. I took it a step further and copied everything out of the “\21” folder so it brought over all of my tool sets too. Made the process of setting up Revu on my new computer basically seamless!

The only issue I seem to have is that while the pinned file/recent files list is present, the computer can’t seem to “find” the files – even though the path appears to be correct to the naked eye. Guessing this is something related to how our IT consultant has things setup. I need to reach out to him and see if he has any suggestions… Stay tuned!

I do the same; I have all my customer tools organized in that folder as well, so I carry it forward every release. All my files linked up seamlessly, but since everything is stored on my local computer, I don’t have any network issues.

Our IT consultant worked the issue out. Had to “manually map the Z:\drive to the server” or something along those lines. 🙂

Woot I had it right, didn’t catch the RdbFileAccess though, thank you Troy!
