I’d love to see what your end goal is here @isaac-harned I have things I would like to do pulling data from Excel to form fields in a PDF as well.

this might have already been shared, but I thought I would put a tip on a tip. When you’re actively in a tool such as a measurement, you can hold your space bar and pan to a different area of the drawing without exiting the measurement tool.

Sorry I’m late to the show, busy times here at UC2 headquarters. And I also took my boys skiing over break. ⛷️ Hope you had a Merry Christmas everyone!

@ChrisRiley did you load the custom columns into the revised drawings before you uploaded them? It sounds like you understand the limitations, so I’m confident you did, but have to ask to check that box. I’m curious if new markup data is locked, only existing ones, or both?

I love it, I always forget about this one. Thanks for sharing @David Cutler

Great tips @David Cutler I use mine for this purpose every day. I used the font Tempus Sans ITC because it looks more like handwriting. It is so nice to click and type in each field rather than drawing a box and having the justification look goofy, only to have to move every markup. Thanks for sharing! 👍

I like to simply use the Markups List summary. I also like to hyperlink each RFI document to the markup so they are quickly accessible from the drawing.

@ChrisRiley If your main tool is just a rectangle highlighter you could create that and save it to My Tools. this way it will apply a number shortcut key for you.

Sadly, I’m still holding off upgrading from 20.2.70. I don’t use very many hotkeys because my students basically never see my keyboard, but I have noticed over several versions the basic shortcuts don’t work. “G” for snapshot is one I use a lot because it’s so deep in the menu.

The help menu disappearing seems like a show-stopper for me. I go through all the menus in my Baseline Basics course and hate it when I run into surprises.

it’s one of those tools that doesn’t seem worth using, easy to skip over. But that one extra click for a text box adds up. My biggest thing is the text lands in a predictable place which the text box is not great with.

I’m not sure if this helps or not, but you could create a Delta symbol with the RFI number displayed, then add a description in the comments. this way when you do a PDF Summary, it would have all the RFI’s listed with the description. Just be sure to put them on an isolated layer so you can filter the list and summary export. Then always import the past RFI markups into the latest drawing so they’re all together. Just a thought.

@David Cutler I’ve built tools for siding trim where I round each run to the next 12′ so we’re always using full-length pieces. this way my total is a reflection of each instance being rounded, rather than just the rounded total. This might generate more waste in this case, but in reality, the installers are not rummaging around the ground looking for a scrap that fits. Just a different approach to think about.
