Great question @dhwalkellc
I don’t user layer hierarchy yet, but I do use a cover sheet on my takeoffs that includes around 20 of my “standard” items (layout, mobilization, supervision, etc). If you use similar items that are in every bid you might consider adding these standard items to your layer sheet.

@Vince posted about hardware setups on LinkedIn and it reminded me about this thread. Has anyone made any updates to their setups recently?

Welcome to the Brainery @joser
If I am understanding your question correctly you are asking that if you create a “standard” spreadsheet can you use it over and over again for new PDF files. While I don’t use quantity link myself, my understanding is that you should be able to save a copy of your Excel file and then update the links to reference your new project’s PDF.
I hope this answers your question.

I’ve been holding off on installing the update @ChrisRiley after @troy-degroot ‘s post about issues with the 20.2.80 update. Now you’ve given me another reason to hold off! Thank you for the heads up.
Did you try hitting the “F1” key to bring up the help menu? That works in 20.2.70…

I’ll be there for the virtual sessions @troy-degroot
I’m house bound this weekend so if you need an independent set of eyes on your slides or a critic for a dry run drop me a Email.
Looking forward to seeing how many of the XCON presenters you can recruit to share their work with the Brainery…

Okay, I’ll bite first, what issues are you seeing? Enquiring minds want to know… 😎

Another thought @Jeff.Collins – when evaluating sub quotes I often have to add the price of multiple components together to have a price for an assembly. My original process was to type the numbers into a spreadsheet and then take a snapshot the data with the total and paste it into the quote pdf. What I found (by accident) was that I could highlight the cells, press Cntrl-C to copy the data and then click on the quote pdf and type Cntrl-V to paste the information automatically creating an “image” markup. You can do the same with text from an email, but review automatically creates a text box when you type “Cntrl-V”. This saves the step of creating a text box and then pasting the data into it.
I’m curious to hear other’s thoughts on this as I’ve never tried importing comments they way that you’ve described.

Perhaps this is an opportunity to teach the client how to make markups directly into the PDF using Revu? Kind of a smart aleck response, but training the client might be the best long term solution. 🙂

I hear where you are coming from @Vince
Have you tried using “Edit/Replace” with the .PDF file name in your Excel file?

Perhaps @Vince it’s time to mount a “Make a Suggestion” campaign for a left, right, center text position option for captions on lines?
Interesting @troy-degroot that the labels are set based on a coordinate system. That could be a good one to know for Bluebeam Trivia….

Thank you for the heads up @troy-degroot ! Not seeing this kind of information out anywhere else….

Sounds as if you have a solid workflow in place @dhwalkellc
Hardware wise are you working with multiple monitors? If so, have you tried “undocking” the markup list? I’m setup with 3 monitors so I run my main drawing on the middle monitor, my markup list stretched to full screen on the right monitor and then I have the “properties” list setup as a partial screen on my left monitor. Often I will split my main view and then drag one of the panels off to my left monitor so that I have a detail available – pipe profiles typically in my case.
If your markup is based on the plan view you would need to keep that as the “active” window and then have your schedules on the left monitor. Your list of custom columns would show in the “properties” panel and you could enter the data there.
Hopefully this all makes sense! Let me know if you have any questions about how I run this setup.
